Week1A: My Blog Theme
I chose this particular blog theme primarily for its clean and minimalist aesthetic. In a classroom settings, especially for a CSIT course, readability and clarity are crucial. Excessive animations, cluttered backgrounds, and elaborate fonts are among the unneeded distractions that this theme stays away from. The material, which is essential for educational purposes, continues to be the main focus. Additionally, a clean design conveys a polished and well-organized image, which is appropriate for showcasing information and academic work.
The simple layout of the theme was another important consideration in my choice. Easy navigation and intuitive content arrangement are made possible by the straightforward two-column structure (or whatever structure it is). Widgets like as contact details, labels, and archives can be easily placed in the sidebar without taking up too much room in the main text area. Students and visitors may easily and quickly discover the information they need thanks to this well-organized framework.This theme also has outstanding readability. Even when reading for extended periods of time, the font selection is easy on the eyes and clear. Effective usage of white space keeps the page from feeling crowded or overpowering. This is especially crucial in online learning settings where students study digital content for extended periods of time.
Despite its simplicity, this theme allows for some customization. A little customization is possible without compromising the overall minimalist look thanks to the option to alter the primary color scheme. In order to create a friendly and inviting vibe, I went with red. Without taking away from the blog's main purpose as an instructional tool, this slight personalization serves to give it a feeling of personality.
As previously noted, I made use of the advanced settings feature to alter the primary color scheme. I also experimented with the sidebar's gadget choices, adding labels to group content by topic and an archive to assist arrange entries by date. This improves the blog's usability and facilitates readers' ability to locate particular material. In this instance, I decided against using a bespoke background image since I thought the stark white background best achieved the goals of increasing readability and reducing distractions. A unique background could take away from the content and make it harder to read, especially if it is cluttered.
Hi Alex, Jared here also from group 2. I found your blog theme to be very well thought out. As you describe it is simple, yet very inviting and easy to read. I have come across some other blogs on here that were difficult to read due to color contrast and font, but you have clearly picked a theme and layout with the reader in mind. After looking at your blog, I think I need to go back and make a few changes to mine to make it more reader friendly. As you mentioned, pictures and other stuff are fine, but if you can't read the blog easily it kinda misses the point of a blog. Well done and good luck this semester. Cheers, Jared

ReplyDeleteVery concise post! I like how you are going down the "occums razor" route of keeping it as simple as possible. I wonder if you have any marketing inspirations behind your "simple' approach? If not, it makes perfect sense why you chose your route. You let your content be the star, not some background images. I cant wait to see what you post next!
Hey Alex, I agree with your reasoning on choosing a simple and clean layout for its legibility. I customized my blog them and I found that I had an issue with having my posts be legible due to the background picture and font color. I also like the drawing on the notebook paper for the background as it conveys creativity in a classroom setting.
